Major trophies bearing the Lamar Hunt name, alongside the AFC Championship Trophy and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup
The Challenge
The Dallas Open needed a perpetual championship trophy worthy of one of the most influential figures in modern sports.
Lamar Hunt’s impact extended far beyond tennis. He is enshrined in the football, soccer, and tennis halls of fame, and his family name is already associated with two of the most recognized trophies in American sports: the AFC Championship Trophy and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
For the Dallas Open, the trophy had to do several things at once:
- Honor Lamar Hunt’s legacy.
- Represent the city of Dallas.
- Create a memorable visual moment for players, fans, media, and broadcast audiences.
- Function as a perpetual trophy that could record champions for generations.
Every element would be highly visible and closely reviewed. The final piece needed to feel personal, timeless, and unmistakably connected to Dallas.
Our Approach
The final design was built around three core ideas.
Honor the legacy.
An etched portrait of Lamar Hunt is featured prominently on the front of the trophy, grounding the award in the person it was created to recognize.
Embody Dallas.
The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, a Santiago Calatrava-designed landmark and one of the most recognizable features of the Dallas skyline, became the centerpiece sculpture. Its soaring arch crowns the trophy and creates an immediate connection to the city.
Build for the future.
As a perpetual trophy, the piece includes engraved winner plaques that will record every singles champion for decades to come.
Additional details include Dallas Open branding, a clear acrylic base filled with branded tennis balls, and the official inscription: “The Lamar Hunt Trophy.”
Every material, detail, and design decision was intentional. The Hunt Family reviewed and approved the trophy before production.

The Solution
The Lamar Hunt Family Trophy debuted at the 2023 Dallas Open at SMU’s Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
Its first presentation became part of tennis history. Wu Yibing defeated John Isner in a three-tiebreak final to become the first Chinese player to win an ATP Tour title — and the first champion to hoist the BLP-designed Lamar Hunt Family Trophy.
The moment was covered by CNN, the ATP Tour, and media outlets across Asia, with the trophy prominently featured in photography and broadcast coverage.
Since then, the trophy has been presented to:
- Wu Yibing — 2023 Champion
- Tommy Paul — 2024 Champion
- Denis Shapovalov — 2025 Champion
In 2025, the Dallas Open was elevated from ATP 250 to ATP 500 status. The tournament also partnered with the Dallas Cowboys and moved to the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, bringing increased prize money, a stronger player field, and greater visibility to the event.
Through that growth, the Lamar Hunt Family Trophy has become one of the defining symbols of the Dallas Open.
The Outcome
The Lamar Hunt Family Trophy now sits in rare company as one of only three major trophies bearing the Hunt name, alongside the AFC Championship Trophy and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
For BLP, designing and producing one of those three trophies reflects the trust placed in our team by the Hunt Family and the Dallas Open.
The trophy has received positive feedback from the Hunt Family, Dallas Open officials, ATP players, and fans. As the tournament continues to grow, the Lamar Hunt Family Trophy will remain a permanent fixture of professional tennis and a lasting tribute to Lamar Hunt’s legacy.
“We are extremely honored to unveil the Lamar Hunt Family Trophy. Lamar’s impact on professional tennis cannot be overstated. He was a pioneer of the sport in this area and we’re honored to recognize his impact with this trophy.”
